Albany Airport Taxi Guide: Getting to ALB on Time
Albany International Airport (ALB) is one of the easier airports in the Northeast to get through, but a missed pickup or a slow drive up Wolf Road can still turn a calm morning into a rush. Here is how to plan your taxi to the airport so you arrive with time to spare.
Where the airport is
ALB sits in the Town of Colonie, just off I-87 (the Northway) near Albany Shaker Road. From downtown Albany the drive is usually 15 to 25 minutes. From Troy or Schenectady, plan on 20 to 30 minutes. From Saratoga Springs, allow 30 to 40 minutes.
When to leave
For domestic flights, most airlines recommend arriving about two hours before departure, especially if you are checking bags. Work backward from that time, then add your drive and a buffer for weather. In winter, give yourself an extra 15 minutes for snow on the Northway.
- 9:00 AM flight: arrive around 7:00 AM, leave downtown Albany by about 6:30 AM.
- Midday flight: leave about 2 hours 30 minutes before departure.
- Evening flight: allow extra time for rush hour on I-87 and I-90.
When to book your taxi
Book airport rides at least 24 hours ahead, and a few days ahead for morning flights and holiday weekends. Scheduling ahead means a driver is assigned to your trip and you get an email confirmation before the day of travel.
Coming home
Schedule your pickup for your arrival time and add your flight number in the booking notes. If your flight is delayed, call dispatch at (917) 331-8916 and we will adjust your pickup.
What it costs
Your fare is based on the distance of your route and includes any airport fees and tolls. You see the full price before you confirm, so there is no meter running while you wait at the curb.
